Once Sasha, Chanel, Michael and Norland got back home, Shelby sent out a mass text that got to everyone in the house. It said to meet in the living room; there would be a family meeting. Reluctantly everyone stopped what they were doing and went into the living room. Everyone sat down, looking around the room at who would start talking first.
“So you're all probably wondering why I sent you that text. Why I called this “Family Meeting”.” Shelby said using air quotes.
“Duh.” Kassy said annoyed.
“We have problems--”
“You just now figuring that out Shelby?” Bre asked interrupting her.
“Okay, maybe you should let me finish before you jump down my throat. Anyways, we have problems with the people who are supposed to be our best friends. People who we can talk to and are supposed to be there for each other. And I think that we need to deal with them if we really want to live together.”
“My mom's coming to get me and Kassandra in the morning.” Lexi said as Daniel stood up.
“What?” He asked, not sure how to take the news.
“We don't want to live here. It was a good idea, but completely unrealistic.” Kassy said from in between Liz and Bre.
“But Babe.” Daniel said looking at Lexi.
“Don't but Babe me Daniel. We've been together for 8 years. 8 fucking years. And you still haven't made a commitment to me. You still haven't asked me to marry you. While Shelby and Lulu aren't even together and they're getting married. What kind of fucked up shit is that Daniel? Do you not want to be with me?” Lexi asked sitting up.
“Yeah I want to be with you, but you know I can't make that type of commitment. I'm not the commitment type and you know that.”
“Well I'm done waiting around for you to change. I don't want to be your girlfriend for the rest of my life. I want to be your wife. And if you can't do that, then I'll find someone who does want to get married. Someone who wants to start a family.” Lexi said standing up. She looked at Daniel and quietly walked up to Kassy's room, Kassy following behind.
“Well that's one problem.” Bre said laughing.
“Shut up.” Daniel said sitting back down.
“You're not going to go after her?” Sasha asked, with a confused look on her face.
“And say what? I don't plan on getting married and she knew that when we got into it. I'm not going to change because she wants me to.” Daniel said in his 'I don't give a fuck' attitude.
“Wow.” Sasha said taking Michael's hand.
“What did you expect to get fixed here Shibb?” Keith asked as all eyes went on Shelby.
“I don't know. I just know that the tension in this house is not good, and I know that everyone here, when pushed far enough, will snap.”
“Okay, then why don't we deal with your problems. Because we all know that this is what it's really about. You only called us here to show that we'll listen to you, and to act like a family. Newsflash, we're not a family. The only real family here is me, Lulu, Liz, and Ace.” Drew said standing up.
“Nah, Shibbz has a point. If we're living together we gotta act like we care about each other. And whether your bitch ass admits it or not, you care about Shibb.” Keith said annoyed.
“No the fuck I don't.”
“Yes you fucking do! So shut the fuck up and let her finish.” Keith said as Shelby sent a smile his way.
“Thanks. I just know that I don't like fighting with you guys.”
“Then accept my apology Wife! I can't stand fighting with you!” Liz said standing up.
“I don't know if I can Liz, and I told you that.”
“Why? I made that choice out of fucking anger and you know that!”
“What if I was to bring Heather here? You'd be fucking pissed too!”
“But I'd get over it! You need to get over the fact that I had Vici come over!”
“That's only because you weren't as close to her as I was to your sister! We were legit inseparable and then all of a sudden she was gone. That's like all of a sudden all the weed in the world is gone. You'd be fucking broken too.”
“But you got over it! You moved on Shibb, we all seen it. We were all there when you needed us.”
“No the fuck you guys weren't. Just because you sat with me and let me cry on your shoulder does not mean you were there. Where were you when I broke down before I fell asleep? Where where you when I sat there at my computer bawling my fucking eyes out erasing the pictures? Where were you when I sat in my bed alone reading the stories, reliving the memories? You weren't fucking there. And for you to claim that you were is bullshit!” Shelby yelled, taking deep breathes, trying not to cry.
It was true. They were her best friends. But at the end of the day Shelby kept them at a distance, kept them close even to be there, but far enough to be gone. She really had no one to blame but herself. If she had just told them what she was going through, all the hours she spent crying, then maybe they could have been there. But Shelby wasn't good at keeping people close. She wasn't good at letting people know her weaknesses, letting them know what was wrong. And that was her fault. Not theirs.
“You never told me that...” Liz said walking toward Shelby.
“Or me.” Daniel mentioned staring at Shibb.
“I don't think she told anyone.” Bre mumbled, putting her feet up.
“Why should I tell you? Once she was gone you all thought I was better off. But none of you knew how much that fucking hurt me.” Shelby took a deep breath and everyone listened, they all knew she was about to pour her heart out. “I knew that I was slowly being replaced. It was only a matter of time. People would joke about it but none of them ever knew how much of an impact their words had. And then you became friends with her. They all did.” Shelby stopped an looked at Liz. “You, and Brittany and Amanda. You all liked her. And that's when I knew that my days were numbered. Slowly, she became more interested in texting Lexi when we were hanging out and then she was spending her holiday's with her. Your mother would drive an hour to Burlington, but not 20 minutes to Dorchester. She was pushing me away too. I was no longer wanted. They just used the whole Lulu bullshit as an excuse to ignore the real problem. Once Vici came back from Europe, I was not longer her best friend.” Shelby sat down and Lulu pulled her close.
It was the first time she opened up. It was the first time she actually talked about the issues that were bothering her for years. It was hard, and everyone knew it. They didn't know what to say to Shelby. How could they make her feel better? They all denied the fact that there was a problem to begin with. They all told her she was better off, but none of them really asked how Shelby felt through it all. No one asked what was going through her head. And if they did, they settled for her, “I don't know.”
“You okay?” Lulu asked once he and Shelby reached their room.
“Not really. But I'll get through it.” Shelby replied sitting on the bed.
“I don't want you to have to go through it by yourself. I want to be there for you.” Lulu said sitting down next to Shelby. He took her hand and looked her in the eyes.
“I have to get through it alone, that's how I work.”
“We're getting married. Your problems are mine.”
Shelby waited a few minutes before she spoke again. “I don't know how I'm going to forgive Liz.”
“You have to think about it. Are you really going to let Vici ruin another one of your friendships?”
Shelby never thought of it like that. She just seen it as Liz trying to get back at her. Forgiving Liz is what was best; for Shelby, Liz and everyone else in the house. She looked at Lulu and smiled. “I love you.” She said as she tickled him.
“I love you more.” Lulu said kissing Shelby, getting her to stop.
Shelby pushed Lulu to lay down, and got on top of him. He smiled and she undid his belt buckle, as he took off his shirt. She looked up and winked at him as he leaned in to kiss her. She leaned back and he took off her shirt, followed by her pants.
“I love youuuuu.” Shelby said as he started to kiss her neck. She laid back as he went down her body. She laughed as he took off the rest of her clothes, and rapped her legs around his neck. She put her hand on his head and started to moan.
“You okay?” Bre asked looking at Daniel. Everyone left the living room and it was just them sitting there.
“Yeah, I'm fine.”
“You don't look fine.”
“I am.”
“I know for a fact that you're not.” Bre stopped for a second, waiting for Daniel to give her his full attention. Once he looked at her she continued. “You just lost your girlfriend, and you're no longer going to be the only man in Shelby's life. It's understandable for you to not be okay.”
“I'm fine.” He stood up and looked at her.
“Okay. Deny it all you want.” Bre said as Ace walked into the living room.
“He bothering you?” He asked looking at Bre.
“Nope. I was just going to go in the hot tub.”
“Mind if I join?” Ace asked with a smile.
“Of course not.” Bre smiled and walked onto the back porch. The breeze was cold and she was suddenly rethinking the idea.
“You got a suit?”
“Nope, good thing I wear a bra.” Bre said laughing. She took off her shirt and skirt and quickly got into the hot tub.
“Iight.” Ace said taking off his shirt to reveal his muscles and tattoo's. Bre gasped a little and smiled. He kicked off his sneakers and let his pants fall. He got in across from Bre and she bit her lip slightly. “You're real cute.” Ace said with a smile as Bre blushed.
“Thanks.” She replied as he crawled toward her. He put his hands on the edge of the hot tub on both of her sides. He leaned in and kissed her, as the water started to get hotter.
