Chapter 5: Together*

“You should go in and just talk to her.” Sasha said watching Lulu shake in a chair.

“What is that going to do? She's not awake.”

“Well watching you sit here go crazy isn't going to do anything either. She'd gonna wanna wake up to you anyways.”

“You think?” Lulu asked sincerely.

“Duh!” Izzy said looking up.

Lulu gave him a look and walked into Shelby's room. She was hooked up to the machines, beeping every other second. Lulu walked over to her right side and sat in the chair. He wasn't sure what to do; what to say.

“Well...umm...I don't really know what to say. I just you to wake up. I need you Shibbz. I really do.” He had nothing else to say. He just took her hand and watched her lay there. He wished she'd grip his hand. But she didn't. He needed her to be okay. For their baby to be okay. That's all he wanted.

Briana looked over and seen Lulu talking to Sasha. “I knew moving in here was a bad idea.” She said to Daniel, crossing her legs.

“What do you mean?”

“I mean I knew moving with those boys was the worst idea Shelby has ever come up with.”

“Then why'd you move in?” Daniel asked turning toward Briana.

“Because Shelby asked me to. She said she needed me. But I sure as hell didn't think Andy would knock her down the stairs. What if she lost the baby Daniel? She'd gonna be heartbroken.”

“Don't think like that. Shelby's strong. She'll get through this.” Daniel said as Lulu walked into Shelby's room.

“You don't know what. This could have been her only chance to have a kid.” Bre said, regretting it after.

“What do you mean?” Sasha asked as her and Izzy walked over to Bre and Daniel.

“When I went to one of Shel's doctor appointments with her he said that it was surprising she even got pregnant to begin with.”

“Oh my god. That's so sad.” Sasha said sitting next to Briana.

“I know. That's why she was so upset when Lulu didn't want her baby.” Briana said.

After that, no one knew what to say—They just sat there and waited.

“My wife falls down the stairs and none of you assholes tell me?” Liz yelled walking up the hallway to Daniel, Bre, Sasha and Izzy.

“You were getting laid.” Daniel said laughing, he couldn't help himself.

“So what? You could have banged on the door or something.”

“We were looking out for Shelby—Not you!” Briana said. The tone of her voice was cold. She knew she had hurt Liz's feelings but at the moment she didn't care. She was worried for Shelby. They were practically sisters. She was closer to Shelby than she was her real sisters.

“Ohhh...” Liz said sadly. She sat next to Izzy and looked at the floor. “Have you heard any news?” She whispered to Izzy.

“Nope. Lulu's in with her now.”

“Are you all with Shelby Shipley?” A doctor asked walking up to them.

“Yes. I'm her sister.” Bre said standing up.

“I have the results.”

Shelby shifted, in an attempt to sit up. She looked around the room. The walls were pale and a sense of death was in the room. She looked down and seen Lu sitting there holding her hand. He cared and this proved it.

“Lu.” Shelby whispered hopping he'd wake up.

“Yeah?...SHELBY!” He yelled, his head popping up, smile on his face.

“Hey.” Shelby said with a smile.

Lulu pushed Shelby over and got in bed beside her. “I was worried about you Wifey.”

“Aww. I'm fine. I just have a killer headache.” Shelby said with a laugh. Lulu put one arm around Shelby and smiled.

He looked down at Shelby's stomach, and put his hand on it. Shelby did the same.

They waited 10 minutes in silence. They hoped for movement. A sign that their baby was still alive. Shelby sat there quiet, not wanting to admit that she lost hope. Tears rolled down her cheeks. She had to move her hand, the feeling of nothing was breaking her heart..

Lulu seen Shelby crying and tried to comfort her. But it was too late. She turned on her side, facing the machines. Crying until she felt okay again.

“She lost the baby?” Liz asked again.

“I'm sorry to be the one to tell you. But you don't have to stay over night. Shelby seems otherwise fine, what she's ready you can sign her out and take her home.” Without another word the doctor walked away, leaving them there in silence.

“Do you think they know?” Izzy asked motioning toward Shelby's room.

“I don't know.” Daniel said as Bre quietly walked to Shelby's room. The others followed her lead.

Briana opened the door and seen Shelby crying and Lulu holding her. They all knew that Shelby and Lulu knew the truth.

Briana climbed in bed and laid on top of Shelby. Daniel climbed in on Shelby's left, and hugged her. Izzy walked to Lulu's side and put his head on Lu's. Sasha walked over to Shelby and held her hand, awhile Liz took Lulu's hand.

They were a family. They had to stick together. This was going to be hard on all of them. They had to get over this rough patch. This may seam like rock bottom, but from there the only way to go is up. They could get through this, they weren't alone—They had each other.
